SPECIAL READING

Sarah Bourne teaches at  Mayfield School, a Special Needs School where they have a very different approach to reading. “We create many of our books into interactive ebooks, with lots of animations and sound effects. We also have recorder pen books where pupils can place the pen on the sound button and each page is read to them. Book boxes also provide pupils with a nice multisensory approach to reading and makes reading fun. Reading is often taken outside of the classroom and different environments are used to enhance the pupils understanding and comprehension of what they have just read, e.g. the woods for Little Red Riding Hood, create an underwater scene in the lightroom for The Rainbow Fish etc. “
